LETTER TO THE SPONSORS

Dear Sponsor,

This few words, which are written here, are from all us to you. Before I start, I would like to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH to every sponsor for your kind help.

We know in our heart that we are some of the few lucky kids of Nepal who get an opportunity to spend our life under the shelter of Nag. We are very thankful and at the same time obliged for what we are today. It is all because of your kind support.

As we write to you all that happens at Nag and our individual views. It would be nice for us if you also could suggest what you would like to know about Nag as well as Nina. Tell us what you would like to know about us through our magazine ‘Kid’s Eye’. Your letter and your stories are always very welcome.

We look forward to hear from you.

                                                                             Your loving Kid

A NEW CHILD IN TOWN

Written by Kamala Gurung

In the month of November, a baby child was brought to Nag. She is an illegitimate child. Nicole miss has given her a name, which is Juhi. Her mother’s name is Maya Magar and father’s name is Tshewang Lama. When her Mother was in love, she became pregnant. They were not married. The father did not want to accept the child so he went away from her. The mother did not have any address of the father, not even a photo and she started to live with her friend from the time she was pregnant. After nine months she gave birth to baby girl in Patan hospital. 2 weeks after giving birth to Juhi she ran away. Her friend felt pity on her and brought the baby to Nag without mother knowing about it. Juhi was very small and sweet. Nicole miss liked her and she kept her at Nag. A few days later Nicole miss and I myself went to the hospital where she was born and checked about Juhi’s birth files, we struggled a lot to find the birth file. At last, we found out that she was born on 30th of October in the hospital. After a few months, her mother came looking for her. She missed her baby a lot and cried looking at the baby at Nag. She said that she did not have a good job and she cannot manage to look after Juhi. She does not have anybody to help her to look after her child. Therefore, she left Juhi safe at Nag. Nicole miss told her that she could come and visit Juhi whenever she likes. Now Juhi is six and half months old. She is living very happily with one of our aunties who look after her. She is the smallest girl of Nag with a plumy chubby and cute face. Every Nager loves her a lot. Now she has started smiling and we always make her smile because when she smile she looks very beautiful.

DEBATE COMPITITION

written by Durba Giri

Once again hi to readers from me, Dhurba. This time I have an article about our school’s First Debate Competition.

            The first Debate competition was on Friday 14th June 2002. The debate was held in our school, and all the students were excited. Debate was inter- house competition. All the four houses (Blue, Yellow, Red and Green) had participated.

            On behalf of Blue house participants were Buddha Lama, Jamuna Khadka, Susan Tamang and the Group leader Suddep Khatri.

            On behalf of Yellow house participants were Kiran Gurung, Rajkumar Shakya, Deepa Mainali and the Group leader Sapana Lama.

            On behalf of Red house participants were Manisha Tamang, Gelbu Sherpa, Dawa Sherpa and the Group leader Hehraj Puri.

            On behalf of Green house participants were Bashanta Basnet, Pabitra Gurung, Bipana Lama and the Group leader Abhay Gautam.

            All the participants were well prepared to their ability. Of course first they looked little confused but very soon they seemed to be confident with lot of heavy points.

            There were two judges, one of the judges had been invited from outside, Mr. Vishmu Thapa, and he is a Nepali teacher of Shrine School. The other was our own V.P Mr. Tilak Panthi. Chaired person was principal of Nina, Mr. Saroj Rai, time person was teacher Mr. Binod Lama and the announcer was our teacher Mr. Ratan Tamang. Time had given five minutes for each participant.

            ‘Vegetarian/non Vegetarian’. First debate was held between blue and green house. Both the houses had well defended their subjects. Vegetarian the best was Green house and in favour of non-vegetarian was Blue house.

‘Town life and Village life’ Second debate was held between the red and yellow house. In favour of village life was red house and in favour of town life was yellow house.

            After these two event judges announced the winners for the final meets. It was a very close contest with narrow margins. The first debate was won by green house and they were selected for the final.

            The second debate that was more interesting and was won by the red house and they were selected for the final.

            Now for the final debate subject was ‘Pen is mightier than the sword’.

            The Red house got the sword and the Green house got the pen. After a five minutes break the debate started.

            Both the teams were looking cheer fool and determined to win. We noticed a great eagerness seen by the audience also. Everybody was listening to the points very attentively. Red House participant was Hemraj and Mannish who were showing their inner talent.

At last the bell rang and the events was over. After some minutes the winner was declared.

            Red House was the winner. Accordingly the other points the Green House stood second, Yellow House third and Blue House fourth.

            ‘Points and position does not matter, each student gained something good from this debate.

            In the name of all students we captains would like to thanks the organizer of this debate and especially we like to thank our sponsors then without them there would be no debate.

Article about Chameli

written by Avay

At the beginning, Namaste to all the readers.

          This article is based on one of our Nag kid’s life, named Chameli .She is a sixteen years old girl. From her childhood, (since I know) she was not good in her studies. She can hardly pass in a few subjects. Seeing this Miss Nicole decided and sends her to the beauty parlour for training. It was going on smoothly but after few months she showed no interest towards it and stop going. After the beauty parlour training, she showed little interest in the cooking class and joins school again. It was her bad luck, she was interested in the cooking class but what to do, and we were compelled to stop it because the teacher was not reliable. Now she is helping in class nursery. She is nice with the small children and she enjoys being with them. Some people cannot learn by studying but can learn by teaching. This is the same thing what is happening with her.

          She could not learn when she was student in school but she seems to be learning by teaching the small kids. Kids also like her and enjoy the things whatever she teaches. She was just in grade 2 when she left the school. Now she has started to help teaching the small kids. She is very helpful during school hour and assists the nursery teacher Mina miss.

          I wish her to be a great Nursery teacher in future and hope she will continue it for long time to be.

Wishes do come True (part 2)

At train station, we had a nice surprise. Saran, Surjay, Ram Dai (Our big boys of Nag) and Bishal Dai had come to pick us up. Fredric sir unpacks his rucksack and gave our boys the Christmas presents from Nicole Miss, they look happy to see all of us. Outside the station, we took a taxi and we went to Dharamtala. It is a bus station. It was a very crowded bus station so we had to wait for two hours but the bus did not show up. Bishal Dai went to hire a bus .It cost 4000 IC. We got into the bus again and Deepak B had to help me to get into bus. Jeeten sir sent Surjay Dai to get mineral water. I was with Sushma miss on a seat and one Bengali guy was changing his clothes in front of us. We had a lunch there around 3:00 p.m. And the driver drove the bus directly to Digha. We booked room in Hotel ‘Duke’. All the boys and girls and me too kept the luggage. I was in Surjay’s room. Deepak B was with me in that room. Other went to have a look at sea but I was left behind to have a hot shower. In addition, after dinner in hotel ‘Baluchari’ I slept soundly that night. It had been a very long trip. I woke early in the morning and went to watch the beach. Wow how beautiful. Till now I had only seen it in Movies. It was like a movie.

At around eight, we had our breakfast. Other went for roaming but I stayed at room. I rode horse with Deepak B. We all got pocket money and bought myself a nice slipper and again we went to swim in the sea. I really enjoyed the swimming. We ate lunch at 1 p.m. We rested for a while, we went for shopping and to the fish market. It was very crowded, so we went there by rickshaw.

            A dumb rickshaw driver, who was the friend of Fredric sir, guided us to the fish market. We saw big fish lying dead on the beach, which had a very bad smell.

Next day, we went to snake park by rickshaw. We had a rickshaw race competition. Some boys push their rickshaw to make it move fast. We held this program every year whenever we go to Calcutta. Big boys had told a lot about this trip. I have never seen that much of snake in my life before. It was collection of different snake.

            In addition, we went to Digha Science City. I enjoyed a lot in Science City because science is my best subject. Days passed by exploring, swimming, eating, gambling in Digha.

So quickly the time passed at Digha. We had a competition of making things out of sand. Bikash Dai, Surjay Dai and Ram Dai were the judges. There were four groups of competitors. Fredric sir’s group made Boudha Stupa. Panthi sir’s group made temple, Sushma miss made turtle and Jeeten sir’s group made sea animals. I did not participate in any group but I enjoyed judging. It was nice. Jeeten sir group won the competition. The prize was a night show in Calcutta in the biggest cinema hall but our plan went flopped because there was very little time. We had the last swimming at Digha.

            The next day, Fredric Sir and Jeeten Sir arranged the bus to go to Calcutta. We put our luggage in rickshaw. I was also in rickshaw with Deepak B. We were all in the bus by 10 am. Fredric sir distributed mineral water to all of us. Moreover, there was counting as usual. The driver came to his driving seat and drove off. At 1’o clock the bus stopped at the unknown hotel for lunch. Some didn’t have lunch .We reached Calcutta around 3; 15. We met Bishal Dai and Saran Dai then they came to pick us up. They had already booked the hotel. We had to walk but I did not walk. Saran Dai and Deepak B’ carried me on the way to the hotel. It was a very long underground walk. They carried me turn wise. At last we reached the hotel Capital. There we got all the facilities we kept our language in our room. If we tell the manager of the hotel they will provide everything. That day we rested. Jeeten sir, Jitay, Ohm stayed in Bishal Dai’s flat. They came to the hotel in the morning. We went to ‘AQUATICA’ (A WATER WORLD) the ticket was expensive. We all enjoyed water world very much, I think especially me, I tried ALL the slides. First, I was very afraid to go but at last I went on every slide. Jeeten sir and Frederic sir encourage me. So I tried the longest slide in the water world. And we return back at 5 o’clock. We rested in our hotel.

            Next day, we went to Science City. It was much bigger than the Digha Science City. There was a Space theatre, time machine etc. We also entered the Evolution Park. It was really nice. The same day, we went to ‘Nicco Park’ (a park of fun). Frederic sir bought the tickets. Fredric sir told the teachers to make a group for lunch. We ate lunch there and after lunch, Frederic sir gave the tickets to play game and click individual photo. I walked with Fredric sir only. I went to the Ghost house, I played train and went to the river cave. And it was nice to play bumping car with Saran Dai. We went to Ice Land Theatre it was very cold inside and very dark. We return back to the hotel and had dinner.

            Next day was the last day in Calcutta. Some went for shopping. But I went to the ‘Indian museum’ instead. I just stayed in the museum with Saran Dai and Deepak B. Fredric sir had given us 100 IC to spend. Some girls went shopping we had a tiring day. We packed our clothes because that day only we had to move from Calcutta. We reached the train Station at 5 p.m. We had to wait two hours for the train. At last train came whistling. Fredric sir checked the seat number and counted the kids. We got inside the train. At 8 p.m. we bought rice from the train. It was smelly we reached NGB (Siligudi) at 8am. Deepak B had to carry me and we reserved two Jeep that would take us to Kakarbhitta we ate Puri tarkari and rested for while. Jeeten sir went to search for the bus in which we had come to Calcutta. We got inside the bus and rode immediately it was around 2:15pm. It was a fast bus. We stop in some places for check up. I don’t know which place we went. But we had dinner at 10:30 p.m. We reached the Kathmandu bus park at 6:30am. We reserve minibus and came back to nag. It was nice to see nag again. It was a nice trip for me. The whole trip was great. I really enjoyed it a lot

            At last I would like to thank the others for all the help we really enjoyed it. Many thanks to Frederic sir, Jeeten sir and especially Mister Andreas Smidt in Switzerland for giving me this opportunity.

NEPAL IS A GARDEN

written by Rajkumar Shakya

Nepal is a garden, I think I know,

All the people bloom as flowers, as it is so.

But not all, always for its beauty,

But few only, that they do their duty;

Few bloom for the progress, and most for the disgrace.

Nepal is a garden, where any flower can bloom,

Beautiful flowers always try to joy,

Still the ugly succeeds to destroy;

Though it has spread its fame,

It has remained an ugly lame.

Nepal is a garden, when one beautifies it,

It again turns ugly with…

Neither can be changed, nor can be progressed,

Nepal is a garden and I am the flower of it;

That has remained the same;

However, it is my Nepal, my garden,

As I call it, for its fame,

Where I was born with a name.

Text Box: MY NINA
written by TSEWANG SHERPA

I born and desire to see,
Beautiful creation of God;
‘THE EARTH’
But found here egoist and primitive cultured life.
It wasn’t my destination,
I surprise,
Then had a dream, God with me
He asked my desire to born
I ask, the land of fateful, graceful and gracious.
He said:
OH, YOU MEAN ‘NINA’

SHIFTING NAG TO SANEPA

Namaste to all the readers. I have been writing in Kids Eye workshop for a long and write a lot. This time I would love to write an article about shifting NAG and NINA from Tinchuli to new place called Sanepa.

          We have not moved yet but sure of shifting there by July. The home where we are going to shift is a very old Rana palace. It’s an 80 years old palace. To make that palace, people carried marbles all the way from England to Nepal, on their back. That palace is going to be very special for us.

          All children are extremely excited to move there. It has a very big good compound but the house is not that big. All are happy in their own way about moving. Kids are happy because they are going to stay in new home and new place. Senior (big boys and girls), they are happy to be in new place and be with new people. We are also happy then we heard it is earthquake safe. We will see different kinds of people and get opportunity to learn extra activities from them. We will also be close to the Kathmandu Zoo.

          People cannot know how big the world by standing on top of the tower. They just can just say, “oh!!!!!!, the world seems to be very big”, but they can never find out the actual size of the Earth, unless they go and visit around it. We are happy to live in the old and precious palace.

          Now lets see what happens after the big move. People cannot judge a book by seeing its cover, to know what about the book is, you have to live in it.

          After shifting there, I try my best to write in detail about it, OK???? Meet you in next Kids Eye with new articles.
